Subject: King Will NOT Play For Niagara Wed Jul 06, 2016 10:35 pm
There is no way this kid will attend Niagara. First of all, even if he gives a verbal, he'll have so much time to rethink it over the number of offers he will get in the interim, that I can't see him ending up at Niagara. All it will take is one offer from a big or near big, and he'll be done with NU.

I don't think King's got a lot of pursuers, other than Niagara.

Now Evansville is not a major, but it has been a solid middy for years, so it wouldn't surprise me to see a mid to near major to high major pick up King. All you have to do is look at Joe Thomas who didn't do much of anything at Niagara, and not only get an offer from Miami, but START there !!! King has good size and a good basketball frame, so as much as I would love to agree with you Tom, I respectfully differ.

I'd be a lot more excited if King was eligible to play this year.

Such an interesting comment from King:
"Coach Casey already has a good relationship with my mom — my old coach didn't do that," King said. "The team seemed really close, something I didn't have since high school."

I'm very happy to hear Niagara got this kid. I didn't think that Casey would land him. Hopefully, he will be happy at Niagara. If he can be happy there, this will surely help his game, as it appears that he wasn't happy at EKU, and I believe that really adversely affected his game. When you don't want to be some where and you're stuck there, your heart just won't be in the game. I believe his best 2 years as a player are ahead of him and he could attain the high major possibilities that some schools saw in him.

King's a tremendous athlete with a huge upside, and if he reaches his potential could dominate in the MAAC. He was getting looks from high mid-majors his HS senior year, before getting into trouble grade-wise.

A very "interesting " background , especially at the JC level . He would have been a perfect fit with Reid . I suspect that Simon Gray coming from Eastern Kentucky himself helped in getting him .

Recruiting is anything but an exact science; however, awarding a scholarship to a 3 pt production and under 3 rebounds per game kid (any kid) who cannot play for a year does not seem like a prescription for long term success. Nothing against King personally and I wish him well, but we need players that can come in and challenge for PT immediately IMO. We're in the bottom 10% of all teams nationally...we need guys that can play immediately. Why would Simon, other than knowing zip about winning or athletic management, allow a coach to bring in kids who cannot play and obligate NU for years to come? We need a new coach, a new philosophy and a new AD immediately, IMO.

Between men's and women's transfers... The combined PPG is 12!!!! 12!!!
What is going on?
I agree eagle. This player doesn't seem to be a difference maker at all

Casey's first recruiting class, right after he was hired, was his best, and his recruits seem to get weaker every year since.

Aside from his poor numbers , there are character issues that he brings to NU . It's absurd to invest three years on a marginal player with previous baggage .

I see him at 8.5 ppg and 5 rpg with a blocked shot here and there. I think he will also help us defensively, as well. I don't think he's an impact big, but he's better than Tew at either the 4 or 5 spot.

It is clear to me that Casey & assistants do not have the coaching relationships, communtication skills to build relationships or assessment skills required for a DI program.
Their recruiting model is non-existent and thus haphazzard. The lack of precision and resulting decision making seems based on mostly desparation and not need, IMO.

But having said that, I will also refer to my previous post, where I said that there's enough HS players graduating every year to supply Casey with the warm bodies to fill out a roster. Its obvious that he's not concerned with wins and losses, as the job is his for as long as Maher is there.
