Recommendations to invigorate NU sports

My recommendations to invigorate Niagara sports and related impact:
1. Simon from AD to Dean of Students to replace the departed McLoughlin
2. Burkie to Director of Hockey Operations and Development
3. Casey to AD
4. Bring back Blaise to hockey; Niagara becomes a top ten team perennially and all sorts of new league affiliations percolate.
. a. NU becomes a perennial top-ten team and synonymous with excellent hockey
. b. Play big teams and win
. c Corporate sponsors revenues, increased attendance revenues, TV revenues and private donations will increase exponentially and a new, improved Dwyer will be completed.
5. Bring in Mike Deane from JMU has Head Basketball Coach
. a. Completely different program in two weeks
. b. Media will flock to NU and Mike will be on the airways as often as they let him.
. c. He will become the soundbite of Niagara sports and his personality will quickly eclipse the other coaches at CC, UB and SBU
. d. Within a short time NU will find a new home at FNC, play a much better schedule and win. A few pre-season games will be at Gallagher.
. e. NU will become a regional power, attendance will increase to over 5,000 a game (FNC would have to add end zone curtains for any college to be successful).
. f. There will be weekly “Mike Deane Show” of TV and radio.
. g. Because of Mike’s personality and basketball/athletic acumen college ball in wester NY will rise quickly; a rising tide floats all boats.
. h. New conference affiliations will emerge

The real winner will be NU academics and admissions. Both will increase dramatically and the alumni will once again be engaged and reunited with NU unlike now.

Communications will be vastly improved in all sports and have a positive impact on all University operations.

All of the above can be done this summer, by the end of July.

NU's basketball and hockey teams will command regular TV coverage and the University's two flagship programs will indeed be "revenue" sports operating at a profit. A win/win for all.

B U T, why waste your time and efforts Mike ? Honestly, I'm sure it took you a little time and effort to lay all that down in your post; and other than getting agreements from us on this board, its all a big waste of your time. Its actually a miracle that Niagara has any fans left. Its only because of the tradition laid down in the '50s and '60s and the NCAA appearances under JAM that Niagara has any fan base left. I bet you that most NF area basketball fans are Syracuse or Bona fans. That's how I remember it in recent years. They were either Orangemen or Bonnies supporters.

You're absolutely right Superfan , unfortunately what we want is not what NU wants . Offering suggestions and thoughts on raising the bar is simply a huge waste of time . NU's toxic attitude eventually wears one down to the point of not caring any more . Quite frankly , I'm at that point , with Casey and Gray at the helm there's little cause for optimism . Without optimism and hope , you have nothing !

Yes, that's right Truthful. I'm just waiting to see how much impact Dukes and Larkin along with the new guys will have on this team. We'll know soon enough when the season gets underway. But without quality bigs it will be hard to matchup with Iona and some of the other teams in the MAAC that have any impact guys at the 4 & 5 position.

I'm looking at 9-11 wins but it could be as bad as 7 or as good as say 13. Again, the only thing that's got my attention right now is the addition of those 2 transfers. Can Dukes have an impact and can Larkin give us what Blackman did from a D-2 transition? Like I said we'll know in November.

Mike, your recommendations are everything Niagara is afraid of...they're bold, creative, decisive and risky. Niagara wants everything so vanilla, so safe, so sterile, that there is no chance anything can go wrong...and for that very reason, everything does.
