NU maintaining tradition being pocked 10th in both men’s and women’s cross country. Many don’t realize how hard and improbable it is to be in last or next to last place with such consistency.

Thank God for St. Peter's!

EDISON, N.J. – The Niagara University men's and women's cross country teams were both picked 10th in their respective 2016 MAAC Cross Country Coaches' Poll announced Friday.

The Iona men, who won the MAAC Championship every year since 1991, were a unanimous first place selection receiving all 121 points. The Quinnipiac women were tabbed to repeat in 2016.

The NU men finished the 2015 season on a high note posting a program-best time at last season's MAAC Championship, running the 8K event in 26:13.88. The NU women had strong performances by returners Kayla Murphy and Caroline Hampton, who finished 57th and 59th out of 159 runners respectively, at last season's MAAC Championship.

The Purple Eagles begin their season competing in the annual Little 3 Championships at Delaware Park in Buffalo on Sept. 3.

The 2016 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships take place on Saturday, October 29 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and will be broadcasted on ESPN3.

It's that " consistency " that was rewarded with contract extensions .
